The Medford practice of Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates opened its doors in July of 1982. As part of Harvard Community Health Plan, it was both an insurance company and care provider for its patients. By the end of 1983, just 18 months after it opened, the Medford practice had grown so dramatically that they had to expand their facilities to accommodate all of their patients.
Over the years, Medford has continued to grow and expand and now has three floors of primary and specialty care as well as an onsite laboratory, radiology, pharmacy and an optical shop. The site has received numerous awards from the Massachusetts Health Quality Partners (MHQP), the Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare Honor Roll for excellence in adult and pediatric care, and the highest possible national accreditation as Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home from The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).
On September 20th, the site celebrated this special 30th anniversary by offering healthy snacks, blood pressure and body mass index checks, and a raffle for a new bicycle for patients. Mayor Michael McGlynn presented Suzanne Guilford-Lopez, Site Administrator in Medford since 1982, with the key to the City of Medford. Representative Paul Donato offered a citation from the House of Representatives in recognition of the practice’s 30 years of care and commitment to the community.
